I painted this work en plein air in the countryside near Colombiers, close to Béziers in the South of France. Surrounded by wild poppy fields, olive trees, Mediterranean light, and warm spring air, I worked directly from nature, capturing the atmosphere of the Languedoc landscape in the moment itself. The painting is created in gouache on paper using layered brushwork, broken color, and expressive painterly gestures. I was interested in preserving the vibration of natural light, the movement of grasses and flowers, and the contrast between the intense red poppies and the soft blue-green landscape. The composition combines elements of contemporary impressionism, expressive landscape painting, and atmospheric color sensitivity. Rather than describing every detail realistically, I focused on rhythm, color relationships, and emotional perception of place. The cypress trees, distant architecture, flowering fields, and open southern sky create a distinctly Mediterranean atmosphere inspired by the rural scenery of Occitanie and southern France. This artwork may appeal to collectors searching for original plein air painting, French countryside art, poppy field painting, Mediterranean landscape, contemporary impressionism, expressive floral landscape, gouache painting on paper, and colorful modern wall art. The work is available framed.
