I created What We Imagine as a diptych exploring the space between what we see and what we imagine. Rather than depicting a specific subject, I built the two paintings through layers of colour, gestural marks and shifting forms, allowing the image to remain open to interpretation. Soft pinks, muted blues, greens, creams and earthy tones are interrupted by darker expressive marks. The contrast between the softer passages and more energetic gestures creates a quiet tension between the two panels, while their shared palette and visual language bring them together as one work. I am interested in the way abstract painting becomes personal through the act of looking. We naturally search for familiar forms and meanings, but each viewer may discover something different. For me, this ambiguity is an essential part of abstract expressionism.
