While working on A Memory of What Comes Next, I kept having a sense of something familiar, something just out of reach. It felt connected to things that had already happened, things happening now, and things that might still happen. As the painting developed, I found myself moving through fragments of memory and feeling. Some parts reminded me of a landscape, while others felt more like emotional traces, without being clearly recognisable as anything specific. When I looked at the finished painting, that feeling became even stronger. It made me think about things that exist across time: love, friendship, trust, and the connections we carry with us. They belong to what has been, but they are also part of the present and of what comes next. That is where the title came from. A Memory of What Comes Next describes that feeling of recognising something without quite knowing where it comes from, and of finding traces of the past in what is still to come.

The Alchemy of Being
- 80 x 100 cm
The Alchemy of Being There’s something fascinating about the way different elements come together in this painting. Deep blues, turquoise, earthy ochres and muted pinks meet touches of gold, silver and bronze. The metallic details catch the light in unexpected ways, adding warmth and a little shimmer to the darker, more layered passages. I love how a painting can bring together colours and shapes that might seem completely different at first, yet somehow find their place alongside one another. For me, that’s what The Alchemy of Being is about — the way contrasts, complexity and unexpected connections can create something beautiful. I haven’t wanted to give this painting one fixed meaning. I’d rather leave that to the viewer. Everyone brings something of their own to a work of art, and I like the thought that people might see or feel something quite different from what someone else does.
